About Abalone Shell
Abalone, also known as Paua, is a colourful and iridescent natural seashell. As a natural product no two pieces of abalone shell are ever the same, making our jewellery as unique as the person wearing it.
The shell used in our jewellery is sustainably sourced as a by-product from the Farmed Fishing Industry of New Zealand and is never dredged or free fished.
About Hei Matau symbolism
In Maori legend it is said that New Zealand was once a large fish pulled from the ocean floor by the demigod Maui with a Matau or fish hook. Wearing a Hei Matau is said to symbolise a connection to the sea, granting strength, good luck and safe travels over water.
